Legal & licensing

Mezzala Games builds unofficial, fan-made football games for learning and entertainment. This page sets out where things stand on intellectual property, and how licensing would be handled if a project ever moved toward a commercial release.

Last updated September 2026

Non-commercial status

Mezzala Games' projects are non-commercial. There is no paid distribution, no advertising, no real-money purchases, no loot boxes and no gambling mechanics of any kind. Mezzala Legends is free to play during its open beta and uses an in-game virtual currency only.

The work is shared publicly for feedback and enjoyment, in the same spirit as a fan project or a portfolio piece — not as a product being sold.

No official affiliation

Mezzala Games and its projects are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by FIFA, UEFA, the Premier League, any football association, league, club, competition, or player.

Team and competition names, player names and player likenesses are referenced in a nostalgic, editorial spirit to recreate famous eras of football — closer to a fantasy-football or quiz product than an officially licensed game. No official club crests, kits, or licensed branding are used. Player card artwork is original, AI-generated stylised illustration, not licensed photography. Crowd and match audio is sourced from third-party royalty-free / Creative Commons libraries; match commentary is AI-generated synthetic speech and is not the voice of any real commentator.

In-game attributes, traits, ratings and match outcomes are fictionalised and generated by the simulation for gameplay balance. They are not a real assessment of any real person's ability and should not be read as commentary on anyone's career.

Trademarks and ownership

All trademarks, club names, competition names, and player name and image rights referenced remain the property of their respective owners. Nothing on this site or in the games should be taken as a claim of ownership over them.

Commercialisation and licensing

None of Mezzala Games' projects are commercial today, and none will be released commercially without first putting the appropriate rights in place.

If a project moves toward a commercial release, the studio's position is that licensing, rights clearance and legal review will be completed beforehand — covering player name and image rights, club and competition marks, music and sound, and any other third-party assets — so that any commercial version is fully compliant. Where a clearance cannot be obtained, the relevant content would be changed or removed rather than shipped.

Rights holders, licensing bodies, clubs, player representatives and potential partners interested in discussing licensing or a commercial arrangement ahead of any such step are genuinely welcome to get in touch.

Rights-holder requests

If you are a player, rights holder, or representative and would like something reviewed, changed, or removed, please contact the studio. Requests are handled promptly and in good faith.

Provided as-is

Mezzala Games' projects are provided as-is, during active development, without warranty of any kind. Features and save data may change or reset as the games develop. This page may be updated as projects progress; the date above reflects the latest revision.

Licensing & rights-holder contact

Licensing enquiries, partnership discussions, and takedown or review requests all go to the same place.

This page is a plain-language summary of the studio's position and is not legal advice.
