About Mezzala Games
Mezzala Games is a one-person studio. It exists to build the kind of football games its founder always wanted to play — deep, honest simulations that respect the person on the other side of the screen.
One person, in the open
The studio is run by Ben Sellars, a developer based in the UK. It started during the Covid lockdowns with a homemade football game built to pass the time, and kept going because the problem — simulating football in a way that feels true — turned out to be endlessly intriguing.
The name comes from the mezzala: the half-winger who drifts between the lines, neither fully a midfielder nor fully a forward. It's a role about doing the unglamorous connective work that makes a team function — which felt like the right flag to build under.
Everything is built solo and in the open: design, the simulation engine, the art direction, the web app and the deployment. Mezzala Legends is the current focus; other concepts are in the Games Lab.
If you want to talk about the games, report a bug, or you're a rights holder with a question, the Contact page goes straight to Ben.
The full arc — where it began, where it could go, and the timeline so far — is on The Story.
